Head of BPS-Statistics Bone Bolango Highlights the Importance of SOPs and Accurate Maize Conversion Data

The BPS-Statistics Bone Bolango Regency officially opened the Training for Maize Conversion Survey (SKJG) Enumerators in Gorontalo on Tuesday (22 September 2026).

Held in the meeting room of BPS-Statistics Bone Bolango Regency, the training aimed to prepare field officers to produce accurate, reliable, and relevant agricultural data to support national food security.

In his remarks, Head of BPS-Statistics Bone Bolango Regency Agus Saefulah, SST, M.Si, emphasised the importance of maize as one of the leading commodities in Gorontalo, particularly in Bone Bolango Regency.

Therefore, the accuracy of conversion figures, such as the change in weight from freshly harvested maize (wet cobs/wet shelled maize) to dry shelled maize, is crucial for estimating maize production in the region.

“Quality data starts with well-trained officers who have a thorough understanding of the field methodology. Through the 2026 SKJG, we aim to ensure that all recording and measurement processes for conversion parameters are carried out in accordance with the BPS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” Agus said.

The training was attended by eight participants, comprising Field Data Collection Officers (PPL) and Field Supervisors (PML).

During the training, participants received materials on data collection methodology, interview techniques for sampled farmers, the use of conversion measurement instruments, and the use of digital data collection applications.

Through the implementation of the 2026 SKJG, BPS-Statistics Bone Bolango Regency expects the results of the data collection to provide a strong basis for both regional and central governments in formulating policies on food, distributing subsidies, and optimising the development of local maize farming potential.
